Atlas
Dia
Comet
How Browser Extension Updates Work
Browsers don't always update extensions immediately when a new version is released. By default, most browsers check for extension updates automatically in the background every few hours. If you need the latest version sooner, you can trigger an update manually or force one through a management tool.
Wait for the Automatic Update
The simplest option is to do nothing. All supported browsers periodically check for extension updates in the background. Updates typically roll out within a few hours of release. If you're not in a hurry, the extension will update on its own.
Updating Manually
Quit and Reopen the Browser
Closing and relaunching the browser often triggers an extension update check on startup. This is one of the quickest manual options if you need the update sooner but don't want to dig into browser settings.
Fully quit the browser (make sure it's not just minimized or running in the background).
Reopen the browser.
The browser will check for pending extension updates during the restart process.
Manually Update via Browser Settings
You can also trigger an update check directly from the browser's extension management page.
Chrome
Go to
chrome://extensionsEnable Developer mode (toggle in the top-right corner).
Click Update to check for and apply any pending updates.
You can disable Developer mode again once done.
Microsoft Edge
Go to
edge://extensionsEnable Developer mode (toggle in the bottom-left corner).
Click Update to check for and apply any pending updates.
Firefox
Click the menu button (β°) and go to Add-ons and themes.
Click the gear icon and select Check for Updates.
Atlas, Brave, Dia, and Comet These Chromium-based browsers follow the same process as Chrome. Navigate to the browser's extensions page, enable Developer mode, and click Update.
Note: The exact menu location may vary slightly between browser versions. If you're unsure, check the browser's help documentation.
Force-Updating via Management Tools
If you manage the Nudge Security extension across a fleet of devices, you can push updates without relying on individual users to act.
Via MDM (Mobile Device Management)
Most MDM platforms (such as Jamf, Intune, or Kandji) allow you to manage and force-update browser extensions as part of your device policies.
Log in to your MDM console.
Navigate to your browser extension or app management settings.
Locate the Nudge Security extension policy.
Trigger a force update or re-push the extension policy to enrolled devices.
The exact steps will vary depending on your MDM platform. Refer to your MDM provider's documentation for browser extension management if needed.
Via Managed Chrome Profile (Chrome)
If you manage Chrome through a Google Workspace managed profile:
Open the Google Admin console (admin.google.com).
Go to Devices > Chrome > Apps & extensions.
Select the relevant organizational unit.
Find the Nudge Security extension and update the pinned version or force a re-push of the extension policy.
Changes will propagate to managed browsers on the next policy sync. Users can also speed this up by restarting their browser.
Managed Chrome profiles typically perform a policy sync automatically every 3 to 24 hours to check for updates from the Admin console. However, policies are often pushed immediately upon user login or via "invalidations" which tell the device that the policy is stale, allowing for faster updates.
It may just be easier to tell your workforce to restart their browsers if you don't want to go through the steps of updating within Google Workspace.
Not Sure Which Deployment Method You're Using?
If you're unsure how the Nudge Security extension was deployed in your organization, check with your IT administrator. The update method that works best for you will depend on whether the extension was installed individually through the browser store, pushed via MDM, or managed through a Chrome profile.
Or you can just do nothing and wait for the browser to periodically check for extension updates in the background.
